Serious – Suicide Awareness Training: Face to face MYA

Date/Time

10/05/2023 9:30 am - 4:30 pm

Location

Merseyside Youth Association Ltd
65-67 Hanover Street Liverpool

This training programme is for members of the children and young peoples’ workforce from Liverpool.

This course has been developed by Merseyside Youth Association’s RAISE team, working in partnership with Wirral CAMHS and YPAS.

It has been guided by parents of suicide victims, children and young people’s participation groups and mental health professionals. Its development was funded by the Liverpool CDOP (Child Death Overview Panel) in response to growing concerns about the number of children and young people who look to suicide as the only answer to the difficulties they are facing.

This training has been designed to help professionals working with children and young people to spot the signs of a young person at risk of suicide and, more importantly, to build confidence in professionals to talk openly with young people about suicide.

As professionals, we need to realise every young person is at risk. There are certain things we can look out for that will indicate to us that certain young people are particularly vulnerable when it comes to suicide.

This programme will show you how to spot the signs of a young person at risk of suicide and, more importantly, to build confidence in professionals to talk openly with young people about suicide.

In addition to the Serious training, further Safety planning training will be provided, which focuses on keeping a person safe in the moment, including what could be done to help them and who might support them in a crisis.

This half-day session on safety planning is aimed at anyone working with children and young people with suicidal ideation and might benefit from the active use of a safety plan. There will be a focus on what a Safety plan is and opportunities to compare various plans, exploring risk and risk factors. using non-shaming language, opportunities for self-care and signposting for further support.

**This course will be delivered face-to-face at MYA.
